**CURRENT ISSUES**
"The Finnish Hi-tech Start-up Community" is a networking group established by Technopolis Ventures few months ago. In a relatively short period of time it has gathered well over 600 members. The group enables to establish useful contacts not only within Finland, but also connected these 75% of the membership with Finns and foreigners abroad - from Silicon Valley to Shanghai - all of whom have relevant business links with the Finnish Hi-tech industry.

Software companies apply patents for the same reasons than any other companies. Also many well known Finnish software companies have applied patents successfully. Namely F-Secure, Digia and Tekla, few to mention, have protected their core technologies by patents. Continuous patent monitoring in core technology sectors enable companies to make right R&D related decisions as they know where their competitors' product development strategies are directing towards.
